contact usNaloxone (Narcan) Trainings – Youth & Adults
Narcan Trainings are in person at the East Haddam Youth and Family Services office. Naloxone reverses opioid drug overdose (Ex: OxyContin, Fentanyl, Methadone, Heroin). These trainings are about an hour long, and are offered to adults 18 years and older, or offered for youth between the ages of 14 and 17 years old. These trainings include education on opioid overdose, when to use naloxone (narcan), and how to administer the life saving drug. All folks who attend receive two doses of naloxone, deterra bag, and medication safe storage bag.
In collaboration with our RBHAO (Regional Behavioral Health Action Organization) “Alliance for Prevention and Wellness”.
Mental Health First Aid – Youth & Adults
EHLPC brings in certified instructors for Mental Health First Aid from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. This training takes approximately 8 hours and is an evidence-based, early intervention program to equip individuals with the skills to respond to common mental health and substance use challenges. Anyone can be a Mental Health First Aider including: Teachers, Parents, Coaches, EMS, and any other adult in the community. It is highly recommended for folks who work with or spend time with youth.
We offer both Mental Health First Aid for both Adult Crisis Response and Youth Crisis Response. A MHFA certification is valid for 3 years.

100% Free to the Community
Quit Kits
Quit Kits are available for free to all youth who are struggling to quit using nicotine or marijuana products (“vaping”, smoking, or even using edibles). These kits are filled with items to reduce the stress and anxiety of addiction and withdrawal. Items found in the kits include: Journals, candys, gum, oral fixation necklaces, essential oils, fidgets, and inspirational stickers. Kits are available from Taylor Setzler, and refills of all or certain materials are available upon request.
Liquor Stickers
“Liquor Stickers” are available to parents and other community members who keep alcohol in their household and also have residents under the age of 21 in their household. Liquor Stickers are meant to keep alcohol tamper evident. The stickers are placed over the top and smoothed down the side of wine and liquor bottles, with the intention to decrease youth from drinking alcohol already in the household. The stickers should be dated and signed by an adult to ensure the stickers are not replaced.
Medication Safe Storage
Medication safe storage is available to all community members, either Medication Lock Bags or Boxes for free. These are used to safely and securely store prescription and over the counter medications, and other critical items such as pet prescriptions and marijuana products. Locking away medications and these other products prevents theft, overdose, and misuse especially among children and teens. Almost one-third of Connecticut high school students misusing pain medications were given or took them from their or someone else’s home.
Naloxone (Narcan)
EHLPC is able to provide Naloxone (Narcan) to any community member for free. Naloxone reverses opioid drug overdose (Ex: OxyContin, Fentanyl, Methadone, Heroin). Individuals will receive a box with two doses, and information about how to administer the life saving drug. Naloxone is SAFE. It has no effect on someone who is not experiencing an opioid overdose, meaning it is safe to have in your household and around children. Naloxone should not replace emergency medical care. Always call 911. Naloxone training is offered throughout the year if folks would like more information.

The Deterra Drug Deactivation and Disposal System is the only safe medication disposal system (pills, liquids, patches) that permanently and irreversibly deactivates, destroys and disposes of over the counter and prescription medications, rendering them non-retrievable for all practical purposes. Plus, it’s safer for the environment, using plant-based packaging and preventing harmful medications from contaminating landfills and water systems.
