Don’t Sink into Bad Habits

A Youth Movement Against Underage Drinking

Alcohol continues to be the most used substance among East Haddam youth and youth nationally. Youth who start drinking alcohol before the age of 15 are SIX times more likely to develop alcohol dependance or misuse later in life than those who wait until 21 years old.

About the Campaign

Don’t Sink into Bad Habits is a youth created campaign to reach their peers. The idea is to highlight the social pressures of underage drinking and sinking into addiction. This campaign has been the base for our alcohol prevention education, and starting the conversation of how to “Stay Afloat” or “Above Water” without engaging in alcohol consumption.

How the program helps:

  • Youth involvement in prevention strategies
  • Opens the conversation of peer pressure
  • Increase of peer disapproval for underage drinking
  • Reduction of alcohol related injuries
  • Encourage healthy lifestyle
